What is Dog Friendly India?

Dog Friendly India is a dog travel-readiness training and property-verification organisation based in Bavdhan, Pune, Maharashtra. It was founded by Mugdha Yelkar to address a problem that ordinary obedience training and “pets allowed” listings do not solve: the dog, the parent, the environment and the plan all need to be ready for travel.

What DFI does now

Roadtrip Ready is DFI’s active one-to-one training programme in Pune. Across 10 in-person sessions, it helps dogs and parents prepare for car travel, public environments, unfamiliar rooms, recovery after stimulation and a supervised Trial Run.

The goal is not a dog who performs perfectly everywhere. It is a safer dog-parent pair that can read the situation, respond earlier and make better travel decisions.

The property-verification lens

DFI is also testing a structured pet-ready property framework across physical safety, infrastructure, staff readiness, guest experience and emergency preparedness. This work begins with real visits and real dogs on the ground, not self-declared listings.

Pet-friendly is permission. Pet-ready is preparation. That distinction shapes DFI’s future property audits and verified stays directory.

Methodology and geography

Training is force-free and aligned with the LIMA principle: use the least intrusive, minimally aversive approach that is effective for the individual dog and situation. Roadtrip Ready is currently delivered in Pune. Property work begins in Maharashtra, with the wider DFI ecosystem built for dog travel across India.

Who is behind DFI?

Dog Friendly India was founded by Mugdha Yelkar, a Pune-based force-free dog trainer who travels with Simba and Arrow. The organisation combines dog travel-readiness training with a growing property-readiness lens for safer, lower-stress travel.

Why the name matters

Dog Friendly India is not a generic list of places that allow dogs. It is an organisation built around evidence: prepare the dog-parent pair, inspect what properties assume, and document the ground truth that cannot be produced from a desk.
